Friday July 12, 2024, we had the pleasure of finishing our week with a visit from local high school and middle school students and their dads to ask questions about a career in architecture. It was a great way to top off a busy week and remind us of what if felt like when we were thinking about becoming an architect. Read below some feedback from the staff.

"It was an insightful experience to reflect on a 30-year career through the eyes of high school and middle school students. There are so many challenging and engaging aspects unique to the practice of architecture." - Anne Johnson, CEO/Principal

“Having the opportunity to sit down with the students and their parents was a good reminder of the outreach we can do within our profession. We can make a positive impact not only through the work we do, but also in sharing our experiences with others, especially to young people who are thinking about their futures.” – Gabrielle Fernandez, Designer

“I remember being in their shoes, starting out and searching for answers from experienced professionals. Now, being able to offer the guidance I once needed feels incredibly rewarding. Starting something new is always scary, so it’s heartening to see these students already showing such interest and curiosity in our profession.” – Natalie Perez, Designer

“It feels almost nostalgic. Even though I am still an eager student that is curious and adventurous, meeting with them reminded me of a time when I was them. It feels good to be excited about the future in relation to something positive and having a thirst for knowledge. They are the next generation who we will be passing the torch, and it feels amazing that they are getting a great head start with an amazing support system.” - Kentrell Williams, Designer

“Some of my lasting memories as an aspiring professional are just from casual conversations with others - I hope to have been able to offer the same experience to our shining visitors. It's experiences like these that remind us as architects that our effect on our communities isn't just limited to the product of our day to day, but also in how we interact with the people.” – Patty Green, Design Associate

“Meeting with everyone was great experience for me. I recall going into school knowing absolutely nothing about the field, and working through school so far, I would have loved to have the answers they were seeking. I was so happy to aid their growth and offer any guidance in any way, so they don't have to go through the same struggles. It's so exciting to see other youth with so much passion to start their journey into architecture and I can only with them the best of luck!” – Parker Sorensen, Intern Designer
